7 of 7 in Phase 1 — Beginner
Step 9 of 25

Step 7: Orient the Last Corners

Twist the final corners in place with repeated righty triggers — while the cube looks like it's falling apart.

≈ 10 minAfter: Step 6: Position the Yellow Corners

What you'll learn

After step 6 every piece sits in its correct slot — the only flaw left is that some yellow corners are twisted in place. This step untwists them with nothing but the righty trigger.

Flip the cube

Turn the whole cube over: x2. Yellow is now on the bottom, white back on top. Keep exactly this grip for the entire step.

The routine

Cube held yellow-down with a twisted corner at the front-right
Yellow down, the twisted corner at front-right.
  1. Turn D until a twisted corner — one whose yellow sticker does not point straight down — sits at the front-right.
  2. Do the righty: R U R' U'. Work in pairs: after two triggers, look under the corner. Yellow facing down? Done. Not yet? Two more. Every corner takes exactly two or four.
  3. Turn only D to bring the next twisted corner to the front-right. Repeat.
  4. When all four corners show yellow underneath, turn D to line the bottom layer up with the rest. Solved.

Why the mess repairs itself

Six righty triggers in a row return the cube exactly to where it started. Each corner costs two or four, and across a full set of twisted corners the total is always a multiple of six — so everything the trigger disturbs cycles home by the time the last corner is done. The “only D between corners” rule exists to protect that cycle.

Solved.

You can solve the cube

Congratulations — that’s the whole method: cross, corners, edges, yellow cross, align edges, position corners, orient corners. Before moving on, do five full solves without looking anything up — the steps must come from your hands, not the page. Then Phase 1.5 makes the same solve faster with zero new algorithms.
